The B&B “Il Castello” is located in the center of Castiglion Fibocchi, a medieval village nestled in the Tuscan countryside.

Our location, in addition of  being in an oasis of peace surrounded by the landscapes typical of the area,it has also a strategic position to reach quickly various points of tourist and cultural interest.

Arezzo

Just 15 km from Castiglion Fibocchi rises AREZZO, at the intersection of four valleys: Val Tiberina, Casentino, Valdarno and Valdichiana.

The center of Arezzo still preserves splendid monuments, churches, palaces and museums. It’s  worth visiting the Basilica of San Francesco, where you can admire the frescoes of the Legend of the True Cross by Piero della Francesca, a work of Renaissance art with an  immeasurable  artistic value .

Ponte Buriano

Going to Arezzo, we find the hamlet Ponte Buriano which takes its name from the famous Roman bridge of the thirteenth century, this  beautiful bridge consists of several arches that often offer a special show with their reflection in the clear waters of the Arno river. His fame is due to the fact that even Leonardo Da Vinci  admired it  so much that he decided to add it  behind the Mona Lisa in his most famous painting.

Castiglion Fibocchi is only an hour drive from the beautiful cities such as Siena, Perugia and Firenze, each of them preserving  an immense artistic treasure of culture, art and architecture.

 

Always within easy reach are the medieval towns such as Montepulciano (62 km), Cortona (41 km), San Gimignano (109 km), Volterra (111 km), San Miniato (107 km) and Assisi (119 km), the places that frame the inner area more beautiful and evocative of Tuscany.

For those who want to enjoy  a spa and wellness path, it’s possible  reaching the Baths of Rapolano which are located just 45 km away, or the Terme Bagni Vignoni 80 km away  from our location.

Carnival in Castiglion Fibocchi!

For almost twenty years now, before the start of Lent, comes to life within the walls of the castle strict and narrow streets of the village the “Carnival of the Sons of Bocco“, an ‘ancient tradition, always told by grandparents to their grandchildren in the “song of the fire” during the long winter evenings … “in Castellione de Fillis Bochi the peasants and lords celebrate together the feast of carnesciale ..” (nda historical document dated May 2, 1174 ).

Every third Sunday of the carnival period the whole country turns into a fantastic landscape, where in every inhabited place, alley and atrium perform the two hundred participants, dressed in wonderful costumes and with the  face hidden behind the precious paper mache masks, that with their elegant bows bring the visitor back in time.

Saracen Joust in Arezzo!

The most important historical commemoration of the city of Arezzo, the Giostra del Saracino, takes place twice a year: the second Saturday of June at night edition, called Giostra San Donato , and the first Sunday of September in the daytime edition, called Tournament of Our Lady of Consolation.

This spectacular event attracts many visitors who stay each time more and more fascinated by the historical procession that manages to revive an atmosphere of the past, a unique and festive one .

The origin of the Giostra del Saracino belongs to the Middle Ages when they were organized rides baroque, events that were also mentioned in the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri early XXII Canto: “Corridor saw your land, or Arezzo, I turned and saw Gualdane, Fedir torneamenti and striving carousel “.

Antiques fair in Arezzo!

The June 2, 1968 was born the Antique Fair of Arezzo thanks to the initiative taken by Ivan Bruschi who harbored a strong love for antiques, art and his city.
Thus it was born the first event of its kind in Italy, which until now has always respected its dense monthly. The event is held every first Sunday of the month, a very important event for fans of the industry, major economic and social value for the life of the old town of Arezzo.
